The Cabin in the Sky

Brownhouse Estes is our home in Estes Park, the gateway community to Rocky Mountain National Park.

The house sits at 7,653 feet above sea level on a private road on the northwest ridge of Little Prospect Mountain. From the front deck, we look northwest at the Front Range Mountains, a range that spans from Casper, Wyoming to Pueblo, Colorado and extends inward to the Eastern Slope of the Continental Divide.

Views from our front deck include some many mountains that soar above timberline, including Longs Peak (14,259) to the left, the peak of Meeker (13,916), Lady Washington (13,304), Thatchtop (12,668), Taylor (13,159), Otis (12,486), Hallett (12,713) and Flattop (12,324).

Closer in we also see several mountains below timberline beginning on the left with Prospect (8,900), Ram’s Horn (9,553) which is also called Teddy’s Teeth and named for Teddy Roosevelt, Giant Track (9,091), Eagle Cliff (8,906), and Deer Mountain (10,013). And from the deck, we look down on the charming village of Estes Park.

To the north and east, we see peeks on the Mummy Range, including Mount Chapin (12,454) Mount Chiquita (13,069), the very tops of Ypsilon Mountain (13,514) and Fairchild (13,502), Hagues Peak (13,560), the mountain with twin summits known as Desolation Peaks with West Desolation (12,918) and the true summit, East Desolation (12,949 ft), and Mummy Mountain itself at (13,425).

We’re excited to have family and friends visit. The views here are nothing short of humbling and inspiring.
